For dental health, the frequency of sugar intake is more important than the quantity of sugar consumption. The modern diet is highly processed, sugar foods, which contain the most likely culprit of bacterias. The problem of dental cavities has increased steadily in the past four centuries in industrialized countries, and despite the recent decline due to the advent of fluoride, it remains to this day. In the presence of sugar and other carbohydrates, bacteria in the mouth produce acids that demineralize enamel, dentine and cement. Many teeth are exposed to this environment, the greater the chance of tooth decay to occur.
